Sustainable Building in Hillsborough, NC
Residence This single level
5000 sq. ft. home was designed and built by John Hartley Construction. Considered a near zero energy home, this
home will produce more power than it will comsume over a one year period. With the help of Energy Earth, John Hartley incorporated
renewable energy systems into the home. Geothermal systems are used for both the heating and cooling of the
air and for heating water for the radiant floor heating system. The home has three radiant floor heating systems that are
heated with solar hot water panels. The domestic hot water is also heated by solar hot water panels. An Energy Recovery Ventilator
provides fresh air throughout the home while removing stale air and pollutants while recovering the energy from the exhausted
air. This is an ENERGY STAR home that will provide superior comfort, savings and indoor air quality for years to
come.

Wendell, NC - Green
Home
Featured above is a residence in Wendell, NC. This
home incorporates a groundsource heatpump (geothermal) heating and cooling system with a full radiant floor heating system.
The solar panels provide hot water for the domestic hot water system and the radiant floor system. Pictured below is
the groundsource heatpump (geothermal) system and the thermal storage tanks dedicated to domestic hot water and a three zone
radiant floor heating.

Fuquay Varina, NC - "Near Zero
Energy Home"!
This Fuquay Varina residence produces more power than it
consumes. This home is equipped with a 2.4 KW photovoltaic system with a two ton groundsource "geothermal" heatpump.
Pictured below is the drill rig on top of the buried vertical wells that contain the geothermal piping and provides
the thermal heat transfer for the geothermal heatpump located in the garage. This residence is located in a sub-development, proving
that renewable energy systems can be incorporated anywhere.
Another Green Home
in Wendell, NC
Custom built from the ground up, Peter and Devera Eggiman
of Wendell, NC have just occupied a very attractive green home on a nicely situated piece of country land just
minutes from downtown Wendell, NC. They consulted with Alicia Ravetto, an architect and green building advocate of Chapel
Hill, NC and worked with her to design the home. The home incorporates passive solar design, solar hot water for the
domestic hot water and radiant heating, a geothermal heating and cooling system, radiant floor heating, energy recovery ventilator
and is rated as an Energy Star home. If you would like to see this home and the systems incorporated
in the home, contact us and we can arrange a site visit. Peter is always willing to show off his home. Pictured
below are the geothermal system, radiant heating, domestic hot water thermal storage tanks and energy recovery ventilator.
