WARNING
POOR INDOOR AIR QUALITY CAN
BE
HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH
FACT: There are hundreds of pollutants that affect indoor air quality (IAQ ) and thousands of sources. Research indicates
that more than 900 different contaminants are present in indoor environments.
FACT:
Poor indoor air quality can lead to complaints of headaches, burning and itching eyes, respiratory difficulties,
skin irritation, nausea, and fatigue.
FACT: SICK BUILDING SYNDROME (SBS)
is now a common term in the workplace. SBS is defined as a condition where at least 20% of the building’s occupants
display symptoms of illness for more than two weeks, and the source of these illnesses can not be positively identified.
FACT: The Environmental Protection Agency and the World Health Organization estimate that approximately
20% of US buildings have serious indoor air quality problems, 40% have somewhat serious problems and 40% have no serious problems.
FACT: “Sick” buildings are very costly for a number of reasons. Productivity is decreased
and absenteeism rates are elevated. The Environmental Protection Agency has estimated that the US spends over $2 Billion in
direct medical costs attributable to indoor air quality problems.
SOLUTION: Identify
and contain the source of indoor contaminants, increase ventilation, and improve filtration.
A building assessment will evaluate the potential for IAQ problems and come up with solutions
and strategies to control the air quality. Many buildings lack the necessary fresh air and filtration requirements,
but most solutions do not have to be costly. Often, building and home owners are unaware
that they have a problem or how to improve their indoor air quality. Energy Earth LLC is a
Certified Air Quality Professional contractor who can help identify and manage your indoor air
quality.
